Personality: When first meeting Bull you're met with a man who comes across as a brute. He's huge to look at, muscular as anything and here to have a good time. He can likely out drink you, out sex you, etc. But, there's something more to him that he tends to keep on the down low. Oh he'll tell you about but it's up to you whether or not you'll pay attention to the truth.

Open-Minded: One of the first things you'll learn about Bull when meeting him is that he has a very open mind about things. Do you identify as a different gender despite your body being the other? Do you enjoy a poly lifestyle? Are you just here to have a good time without getting tied down? Well, he's open to all of it. Pretty much the only time he's not is if you're using that as an excuse to be awful to other people. But really, he's fine with people living their lives how they want to. This openness to things draws a lot of people in who would normally be deemed outsiders by the places they hail from. Because he's not judging them and he's genuinely opening his arms to them. After all, he's pretty unusual himself being that he's a Qunari (now Tal-Vashoth) who is operating as a mercenary leading a band of misfits. But hey, those misfits are his family and he would give up so much for them. A fact that will be discussed later.

Fun: Anyone who comes across Bull can agree that he's just plain fun. For better or worse. After all, some people just can't handle the fact that he's here to have a good time to the point of all night parties and sex with whoever is interested. Because as long as everyone at the party is willing and ready then who cares what the world things? Honestly he thinks that a lot of the uptight people out there probably need the chance to loosen up a bit. While he won't force them into that kind of a situation, he does always provide opportunities to join. Because everyone is welcome to have a good time with him.

It is essential to once again point out that he will never force anyone into anything nor will he try to manipulate them into it. Someone tells him no then that is the end of that. Boundaries are essential to having a good time. That way everyone feels they are in control and no one gets hurt. This applies to all aspects of his life in and out of the bedroom. No one should be getting seriously hurt when they're enjoying themselves. He's a strong believer in a safe but fun time for all.

Observant: It can be scary how much insight Bull has into things. Even when his back is turned, he knows what is going on around him. Little surprises him simply because he can read people so damn well. Someone can be hiding a secret but through little tells in body language he can figure out what it is. Or, at the very least, that the person is carrying around a deep secret that they don't want anyone to know about. A lot of this comes from his days as a trained spy for the Qunari. It was literally his role in the society. To spy on other cultures and relay information back to the Qun. He did so for many years until he was kicked from the Qun. Still, old habits die hard.

These days he uses these skills to find out what his friends and lovers need most. Find out what will make them the happiest. Sometimes that can be pretending not to notice them hauling a giant present in for his birthday and other times it can be as simple as knowing that someone wants to be thrown onto a bed but doesn't know how to say it. Being able to see these things in others allows him to get a sense of who he can trust as well and who he should keep a closer eye on. Just in case something happens.

Fearful: When you look at this guy you don't think that this is someone who is scared of anything. You'd be quite wrong about that though. There are a couple of things that really terrify him and shake him so badly that he can feel like he's losing himself. Demons and a lack of control. The first is simply that demons are unpredictable and only there to destroy. They feel no love nor affection for the world around them. All they desire is ruin and that utter darkness chills Bull to the bone. Because it also leads into his other fear which is a lack of control.

Qunari society teaches how there is power to be found through discipline. Through a lack of chaos and a control of the world around you. By having that kind of power, you can shape the world into a better place. One where everyone knows where they stand and no one has to fear that horrible thing called confusion. Even now that Bull has been kicked from the Qun he still follows this mind set. So when he's faced with things like this he can react in a couple of ways. Take charge of his situation and make it work for him or panic and even rage. The latter of which is something he hates about himself and he willingly submits himself to being disciplined when he feels that fear try to take control of him. Because he's not fit to be what he needs to be for anyone if he's in that state.

This need for control is also why he supports the Templars. While he has no problem with mages, magic is a thing so powerful that to just tap into it unchecked is dangerous. He feels that the Templars are a necessity for keeping things, and the world, safe. Because nothing is more terrifying than chaos unchecked.

Prejudice: This seems to be a direct conflict with his open-minded ways but when one factors in what he's prejudiced about it makes sense. Namely, societies or people that see no issue in cruelty or barbaric ways. You see this most strongly in his feelings about Tevinter as well as with the Tal-Vashoth. With the former we often see his disgust over what the “Vints” do with magic. They have little problem with experimentation with magic or even the dangerous use of blood magic in order to advance their society. Even if it means torturing people to do it. Their practices disgust him to the point where he directed this disgust towards Dorian early on in the game until they came to know each other better. Now they still don't always get along but it's more a personality thing these days. Even then, those from Tevinter are sure to earn Bull's disgust rather than him being willing to listen to their story from the start. Because never trust a Vint. They're always up to no good.

And then there's the Tal-Vashoth. It's clear in talking with Bull that he was never fond of them. However, during his time in service at one of the outposts, a Tal-Vashoth unit took down a number of his men and butchered innocent civilians, a school of children, along the way. This willingness to do harm on others, even those not involved in a conflict angers him more than just about anything else can. So much so that he almost single-handedly took down the entire unit on his own, slaughtered them all. That rage is not something he's proud of since it was unchecked and made him unfit for duty. But even now he hates the Tal-Vashoth with a passion and it's hard for him to admit that he's one of them now. Because he doesn't want to be seen as one of those monsters.

Self-Sacrificing: This trait can be everything from good to bad for Bull. Though honestly a lot of what will be covered here is the bad. Because Bull is someone where once he cares about you then he will do anything for you. His heart is as big as he is so he cares deep and hard about a person once he's bonded with them. He puts a lot of effort into making sure those people are truly happy even if it means that he has to give up some things along the way. However, this does not always mean he necessarily takes care of his own heart along the way. Things we can see in the horrifying decision to pick between the Chargers and the Qun or even when he breaks off things with the Inquisitor.

You see, these two things make Bull so happy. His boys are his family and he's taken them all in and seen that they have the best. Should you sacrifice the Chargers (that is not what happens in his playthrough), then Bull is essentially killing off his family for his job. It breaks his heart and can harden him for the rest of them to the point where he can betray you for the Qun later. Because you know, the job first. His happiness doesn't matter obviously. However, in saving the Chargers, he sacrifices his entire life that he's known. His entire everything just to be with them instead. Because as Tal-Vashoth he can never be part of the Qun again and is forever branded as a traitor. Not only this but it's something he hates so passionately that he doesn't even like to be called it even though he knows that is what he is.

But perhaps the true best example plays out in the romance with the Inquisitor. Up until a certain point they're very happy together. The Inquisitor genuinely makes Bull happy and he is always ready to be around him. It really looks like he's falling for the guy when suddenly circumstances lead the Inquisitor to say to others that they're just messing around and that it's not serious. Right away Bull breaks things off because he's not here to make things hard for the guy. But there's a way in how he closes himself off that you can tell that this is something he has done his entire life. Close off from the pain and move on. This door has closed.

Bull will not put himself first and will always put others before himself. Friends. Lovers. Allies. He is the tank and here to take on the damage even if it means damaging his own body and heart to pull it off. He'll play it off like he's fine but these are wounds he will have to carry for the rest of his life. And the worst part? He will never ever complain about doing it and will always offer himself up to do it again. No questions asked.

Powers and Abilities: Bull is a Warrior who specializes in being a Reaver. This means that he is a powerhouse in the battlefield who gets stronger the more he's hurt. Blood and pain and death is his motivation and makes him just the kind of person that you want to have on the frontline since he can tank his way through basically everything. And being one who specializes in two handed weapons as well means that he's very strong as well.

Now, he has no real magic or supernatural abilities to speak of. With that said, he's a trained mercenary and spy meaning that his observational skills are off the charts and he's amazing at being able to find out just what someone needs. This includes molding himself to fill that role. Essentially Bull is a dangerous fighter that you want to have on your side rather than against you.
